Our History

Evergreen Church was founded in 1984 with the purpose of reaching Sevier County for Christ. We are part of the Presbyterian Church in America (www.pcanet.org) and the Tennessee Valley Presbytery (www.tnvalleypres.org). We are a welcoming church, embracing our reformed faith while finding room for all who would join our family, learning and growing at their own pace. Our members come from many denominational backgrounds, all believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, resting upon Him alone for salvation. Evergreen worship services reflect those different perspectives with elements that are traditional and contemporary, perhaps best described as ancient-modern.

Evergreen has had four pastors during its existence. The first was Rev. Randy Davis. Pastor Randy oversaw the construction of our first building, which was on the Parkway in Sevierville. Our next pastor was Rev. David Geib. Pastor Dave helped simplify our church structure during a very productive, growing season of ministry in the life of Evergreen. Rev. Henry Bradford was our third pastor. Pastor Brad had a special gift for articulating the wonders of the grace of God, which was a great encouragement. During Pastor Brad’s tenure he and the elders had a vision for a broader ministry in connection with an established daycare on Dolly Parton Parkway. This effort led us to move to that building as our place of ministry. Sevier County’s tourism/vacation industry was hit hard during the 2008 housing market crash and recession. Unfortunately, it set in motion a chain of events that led to the loss of our building in late 2013.

Despite this traumatic event in the life of our church, many of our church family saw something beautiful at Evergreen. The elders provided leadership as this resilient group continued the work of the church and brought it forward. Without missing a single Sunday service, God blessed us to be able to partner with the Smoky Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Church, providing a location for our worship. In January 2015, Rev. Wes White came with his wife and their seven children to serve as pastor of Evergreen. Pastor Wes was enthused about this group and willing to embrace our new situation. He led a reorganization of our church as a mobile church, creating the new shape of our ministry as God opened the door for us to worship at a wonderful conference center right in the middle of Sevierville.

Sun Outdoors Pigeon Forge, on the Parkway in Sevierville, has served as our worship space since May 2015. In the early fall of 2023, God provided the opportunity for us to purchase—debt-free—a beautiful property on Newport Highway in Sevierville. This property keeps us front-and-center on one of Sevierville’s main thoroughfares. We’re excited about the future of Evergreen and eager to see how God works through us to shine the Light of the Gospel and bring hope to the Sevier County area and beyond.

Together we seek His perfect plan for our lives, and we desire to glorify Him with all He has made us to be.
